Designers: Costello Tagliapietra






Costello Tagliapietra are Joe Costello and Robert Tagliapietra. The team were original Norma Norrell taught to sew by their individual grandmothers who both coincidentally worked for forty years ago. Although they are bears in appearance, there designs for women offer an interesting counter point to their masculine presence.

Chow Yun Fat's Neckwear








In the trailer of Replacment Killers, Chow Yun Fat's tie folds over his arm during a gun fight, in a manner that was so elegant, it made me want to see the movie.

The movie, itself, was a straight up HK style assassin movie. CYF plays an assassin with a soul, and Miro Sorvino is the passport forger who gets mixed up with him.

What the movie does lack is that seemingly prerequisite roll-in-the-sack during the quiet interlude scene right before the final climatic fight when they are hiding out in some seedy motel or other "safezone." I try not read too much into it, but I'm just saying...

Navy Seals and Vanessa Beecroft VB 39.




Although she has moved on to more fashion-y subject matter, at the end of the millennium, Beecroft was all about the Navy Seals. My favorite work is VB 39, with its stern order and machismo. Looking back, the entire series is an compelling counterpoint to the chaos of war in the decade that followed.
